Protest organised by Sisters Uncut outside the Houses of Parliament as the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts bill passes its second reading by 359 votes for to 263 against.
The bill, described as “a staggering assault on our right to protest” by Liberty, imposes restrictions on crowd size and noise, increases penalties for breaching police conditions on protests – threatens to criminalise Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities, extends stop-and-search powers and introduces ten year prison sentences for defacing a statue.
