Kittiwakes, Dunbar, Scotland in July 2020 – by Philip Revell
“Recorded towards the end of July 2020, down at the shore near the entrance to Dunbar’s New Harbour. The ruin of Dunbar Castle dominates the harbour and provides a nesting site for over 600 pairs of kittiwakes. Year after year, each kittiwake pair returns to the same precarious ledge to raise their chicks. You used to be able to climb up and look down on the nests from above – but with its sandstone crumbling, the castle has long since been fenced off.”
