On the bank of Murrumbidgee River, Canberra, Australia in December 2019 – by Ryan Pemberton

“This is an ambisonics recording I made mid-December last year. I had just finished building a dobsonian telescope and I was down in Canberra visiting my folks for Christmas. Me and some of my high school friends went to the river for a picnic, and when the sun went down we took out the scope and looked at the moon and Saturn.

There’s birds calling and splashing in the water, as well as some insects (and frogs?). But you can also hear us sitting a ways off, laughing occasionally. At the end of the recording I realise that I’ve left the recording running for almost an hour and run over to check on it.”
