River, Longarone, Dolomiti Mountains in Veneto, Italy – by Jonathan Zenti

“In 2013 the little mountain village of Longarone, in the Dolomiti Mountains in Veneto, Italy, celebrated the anniversary of the greatest natural disaster caused by human beings. 50 years before, the side of a hill collapsed into an artificial lagoon, causing a wave that crossed what was the tallest dam in Europe, blowing away three quarters of Longarone and killing almost 2000 people in a few seconds. The dam is still there. I made this recording on the summer of 2013 at the foot of the hill, where the new course of the river Maè has started after that night of 1963.”
