Starling Murmuration, Nobber, Co. Meath, Ireland in January 2019 – by Zoë Comyns
“Every evening at dusk in late winter 2019, ten to twenty thousand starlings came home to roost after a spectacular murmuration which lasted for nearly an hour in the skies above the forest. These recordings were taken as they flew in to land in the wood – they appeared here every evening for just over a week and moved on. I had three different recorders positioned in various placed in the wood and on the outskirts. I came back a second time a few days later to get as close as possible to capture their wings moving and the rushes of air that happen when they swoop and wheel in formation on the edge of the wood and darkness.”
