“In December 2008 we were visiting my brother-in-law in the southeastern suburbs of Melbourne. There was a wetland in the park next to his house that had the most insane sounds I’d ever heard, a beautiful cacophony of bell miner birds and goodness knows what frog species. One twilight I headed out with my Zoom H4 recorder (then brand new) and stood around, utterly transfixed, for a very long time. In the background distance you can hear the suburban traffic of Wellington Rd.”
