Walking through the dunes to the sea, Nantucket, USA in August – by Justine Paradis
“I made this recording on a perfect blue afternoon in August on Nantucket island, where I grew up. I’d come home for a friend’s wedding and was anticipating seeing an old love I hadn’t crossed paths with in a long time, so the island was feeling emotional and resonant. I took a long, slow walk along the south shore of the island, passing from the dunes to the beach and standing in the waves for a while. The waves broke steadily but not evenly: some gentle and frothy, others with more power, threatening to disrupt my recording. My wind filter wasn’t the best so you’ll hear a few gusts in this recording, as well as my encounter with a friendly dog.”
